Remember When Space Mountain Was An E Ticket?
Posted on Aug 25, 2008 I worked at Disney World during the summers of my college years. In those days, you had several options for purchasing tickets to go Disney World. Also, there was only the one park. On average, you could plan to spend about $15 for an adult, plus food. A few weeks ago, Disney raised their prices again.......today, an adult will spend $75 to walk in the door. Additionally, the 50 cent parking has slowly raised to $8! Need a stroller? That's another $8! By the way, there used to a break for all children under 17, today the cut-off is 9. Why am I telling this? Well, in the early 70's there was only one theme park BUT there were lots of airlines. You could shop for a schedule that fit yours. You bought a ticket, (a rather expensive ticket) you dressed up, you walked on board and were treated well.....there was food, drink, blankets, playing cards, magazines and yes, there was service! Over the next 30 years, Disney has continued to raise prices, and raise prices again.........they charge for everything, again $8 to park a car? Subsequently, over the years, Disney has added 3 more theme parks, a shopping complex, a number of hotels, a cruise line and theme parks in Europe and Asia. Over the same 30 years the airlines, well, you know that story. They lowered the price, reduced the service, schedule choices have almost disappeared along with food, drink, playing cards etc. In fact, many of the carriers of the 70's have disappeared and yet, people keep boarding flights to Orlando and paying whatever Disney asks? Yesterday, I read where M&M/Mars will raise their price 11%. I expect M&M connoisseurs everywhere to keep on eating those little red, green and orange treasures, I am sure M&M/Mars is banking on it. Airline executives.....wake up! People will pay.....they always do. How can air travel be so much cheaper? If the current trend continues people will be able to fly from LAX to MCO cheaper than they can pay to PARK at Disney World!!!!!! Clearly, Disney, Universal and Sea World are banking on you to keep your ticket prices low so they can keep raising theirs. editor@bigjetcity.com
NWA F/A's To Wear Delta Uniforms?
Posted on Aug 24, 2008 Delta Airlines has sent a memo to flight attendants at Northwest Airlines, which it is seeking to buy through a stock swap, notifying them of upcoming "style clinics" where new Delta uniforms are to be unveiled. Delta wants NW's flight attendants to begin wearing Delta uniforms on routes early next year. While this may not be a significant story, it does give a clue as to how the merger between the two airlines could go in terms of branding -- whether the Northwest brand will survive or be swallowed up by Delta's. The merger, announced this spring, is expected to close by year's end and will form the world's largest airline carrier.

Can You Help?
Posted on Aug 12, 2008 Le Anne, Capt. Langenhahn accidentally discharged his FFDO pistol through the left cockpit wall, whilst attempting to re-install the TSA-mandated trigger lock. The company fired him, for reasons that are not clear. He will most likely be reinstated by an arbitrator, late this year or early next. Until then, through no fault of his own, (divorce, expensive illness of Mom) finds himself impecunious. He has cashed out his 401K to live. US Airways have challenged his unemployment benefits....the beat goes on. Hope some of your readers are of a mind to help.
