UAL C12 Q&A
•Q: Due to the change in retirement age, many of us are facing furlough for a second time that wouldn't have been. If every pilot flies until they are 65, there will not be any significant retirements until 2013, is there any indication that the over 60 pilots will retire before then?
This is reported to be part of a Q&A conference call for UAL C12:
•Q: Due to the change in retirement age, many of us are facing furlough for a second time that wouldn't have been. If every pilot flies until they are 65, there will not be any significant retirements until 2013, is there any indication that the over 60 pilots will retire before then? •A: It is anyone's guess at this time. The results of the ALPA survey indicated that most pilots who chose to fly beyond 60 would retire around the age of 62, but as stated, it is anyone's guess. Hopefully some meaningful early-out incentives can be achieved. I would like to point out that many of these guys would be happy to leave IF they had a pension!!!! Sadly, they simply can not afford to retire----gas is after all $4 a gallon. editor@bigjetcity.com Other responses included: Excuse me if I'm just a little cynical about this one. The active pilots weren't too interested in helping those pilots (who wanted to) to fly past 60. Now they're complaining about it again?? I was too pxxxxd off to elaborate on this comment. Many of the pilots whining about the new retirement age are the same ones who voted to take away our retirement, because we were "lazy, and sitting on our asses" while they were working longer hours for less pay. Jim I sincerely hope there IS Karma - and we all live long enough to see it play out with these fools.
Gee, I'm sure glad I don't know any of those me, me, me guys? Al
