Help Needed Now!!!!
This just arrived from Paul Rancatore, one of the 2 pilots running for Congress............... Folks, I spoke with Joan Wages (APFA) and Shane Larson (AFA) today. The DOL seems to be on the attack against "labor" and is now trying to push through a piece of legislation that will take away the rights of a crew member on "reserve". The action item is for every crew member to "flood" their senators phone and fax lines to support S. 2059. If this is not supported by the Senate then the DOL will be successful and it will not be readdressed by the Congress until next year. Leaving reserve crew members no ability to qualify for FMLA. Paul I think it is more than the FMLA ....it is yet another attack on our industry as a whole! Make sure your Congress people know there is nothing part-time about reserve at an airline! Retirees, speak up, we must strengthen the labor postion! And this is what I am talking about: I want to comment on the latest Federal Government effort to stick its nose into private business with their attempt to clasify reserve flight attendents as part time workers. To me it looks like corporate America is trying to use the Government to reduce costs by reclassifying full time employees as part time employees to cut costs. I suspect this effort is sneaking in through the back door from the Air Transport Adssociation (ATA) lobby or some other hidden entity. I see this as a bigger problem for labor than just involving reserve flight attendents. What about reserve pilots, reserve railroad engineers, reserve nurses, even doctors on call for emergency room services. We have an insidious cancer growing in our country that is determined to reduce the working class American into a part time, low paid worker bee, while the wealthy business or corporate types continue to live like kings off the labor of workers. It was only several hundred years ago the "lords and surfs" were around and it lokks like that old system is returning to America. In my opinion there had better be a strong response from the working class soon, or lords and surfs will again be the system. I'm afraid because they no longer teach history in most public schools, many have no idea of what I'm talking about.
